Our Story

Juan ProaƱo and Deirdre Hannigan started Plus Three along with partners Thomas Burke, and childhood friends David Brunton and Charles Frank in late 2002 with a mission to use web based technology to promote social change in America.

Our experience in the private sector, working for Bigfoot Interactive (now Alliance Data) developing traditional direct response e-marketing programs armed with robust database tools for Fortune 500 companies provided a model that would change how political, non-profit, and advocacy programs were developed and implemented on a national scale.

Our first client, the Democratic National Committee, contracted Plus Three to develop and implement new web based technology using open source software as part of their technology renovation project leading up to the pivotal 2004 election under the direction of Chairman Terry McAuliffe. Plus Three was charged with developing Demzilla and Datamart, their first nationwide donor database and voter file, and online systems for the web publishing and fundraising. In 2004, Plus Three added its second client, John Kerry for President developing its online contributions systems and email systems. By the end of 2004, Plus Three had raised $185 Million dollars online through small dollar donations, and for the first time in history, helped the Democratic National Committee surpass the Republican National Committee in fundraising.

The experience gained developing and supporting large scale database backed applications for fast moving political organizations provided Plus Three with a model that today helps serve top national and local non-profit, advocacy, and membership organizations with tools built for highly targeted direct response communications for advocacy and fundraising.

In the years since, while our clients were winning elections, advocating for legislation, and serving their members, our team sent more than 2 billion emails, identified and cultivated more than 10 million new online activists, and raised more than $225 million.

Today, Plus Three has a new set of tools for a new generation in ARCOS. A complete software package designed to make even the most advanced marketing techniques easy and rewarding for organizations of all size.

  • In 2002, Plus Three built Demzilla and Datamart, the first nationwide donor database and voter file in the history of the Democratic Party. The DNC used this tool to out-raise their Republican counterparts for the first time ever during the 2004 election cycle.
  • Plus Three was the first organization to harness the power of community fundraising. Our ePatriots program begain in 2003 and allowed bloggers and netroots activists to raise more than $2 million for the DNC.
  • We sifted through millions of data points to craft the lucrative online marketing strategies that poured more than $18 million into combined DSCC and DCCC efforts to take back Congress in 2006.
  • Our rapid response helped the NAACP raise $2.6 million in hurricane relief funds and from 5,000 first time donors in just 10 days after Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast.
  • We gave local activists robust blogging, social networking, and media sharing tools that the Sierra Club is using in a pilot campaign to fight global warming in New Hampshire.

Our success is powered by ARCOS and Civitas, technology platforms that were designed exclusively to facilitate constituent organizing and community action. Our software makes it easy to send personalized messages to any segment of your list, organize a talk radio call-in campaign, or give individual blogs to your network of supporters.

The bottom line is that Plus Three gives you everything you need to succeed online. The right tools. The right strategy. Proven results.
